for alto saxophone and piano, is a short, single movement work that
explores the visual effect of a mirage, but in an aural sound world.
Musical ideas are continually shifting, appearing and then suddenly
disappearing, producing effects of surrealism and distorted realities.
By about the halfway point into the piece, both the saxophone and piano
attempt to "attach" themselves to a single idea in hopes of
solidifying reality. After an intense struggle, the opening "mirage-like"
elements return and the piece "wisps" away. Premiered in Rochester, New York. April 23, 1998
