There are many different interpretations and translations of this poem, but version I like the best is: The birds have vanished from the sky. The music is in four sections or movements, performed without break, with each section based on one line of text. Rather than being a literal translation or depiction of the text or using such techniques as word painting, the music is a personal, musical response to the poem. Each section of music endeavors to capture the spirit and mood of each line of text. Until Only the Mountain Remains was composed for and premiered by Peter Schultz, Mary Watt, Troy Rinker & Conrad Alexander, and is dedicated to them with thanks and admiration. The piece was premiered at the Kinhaven Music School in Weston, Vermont, in June 2014. Nicolas Scherzinger - Weston, VT June 2014 |
